The Export Promotion Council (EPC) in conjunction with the Kenya High Commission in Zambia, the Ministry of Trade, and Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) among others, invite companies to participate in a Kenya Solo Exhibition in Blantyre, Malawi, from  17th - 21st February 2010. This will be followed by a Trade Mission to Ndola, Zambia from 22nd - 23rd February 2010, organised by KAM.

The Solo exhibition and the Trade mission are aimed at offering opportunities to Kenya companies seeking to launch new products, enlarge, consolidate and diversify their market in Malawi, Zambia and neighbouring countries. The two forums will be used by businesses to establish business to business linkages, secure business deals and understand the buyer requirements and emerging market trends in the Zambian and Malawian markets including competition landscape. Participants will also have an opportunity to explore opening distribution outlets, signing or agency and distributorship agreements and licensing arrangements.

Why Malawi and Zambia?

  • Members  of COMESA
  • Identified unexploited trade opportunities in Zambia and Malawi
  • Need to diversify exports within COMESA outside EAC
  • Growth trade trends e.g.  Malawi -  100% increase in trade in 2008; export revenue of Kshs 4 billion in 2008 from Kshs. 2 billion in 2007 and for Zambia - 20% increase in trade in 2008; export revenue of Ksh 6 billion in 2008 from Kshs. 5 Billion in 2007 (2009 estimates)
  • Accessibility - both by road and by air via direct flights

Why a Solo Exhibition in Malawi?

  • Country specific - focus will be on Kenya only
  • Visibility - presence in Malawi will be prominently broadcasted
  • Business-to-business workshop to provide one-on-one business interactions

The climax of the Kenya solo exhibition will be the planned business networking / match-making forum on 19th February 2010 where the Minister for Trade is expected to lead the Kenya business delegation. EPC will meet the full cost for freighting exhibits to and from Malawi at a ceiling of 200Kg per participant. However, in the event that duties and taxes are charged, participants will be required to meet the extra costs.

From the Solo week the KAM delegation will proceed to Ndola, Zambia for a two day trade mission where KAM in conjunction with the Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) and the Kenya High Commission will organize business-to-business meetings for Kenya and Zambia business people.
